Eagles Politely Wait Until 4th Quarter To Beat The Absolute Piss Out Of Washington
I'll tell ya what--it wasn't always the easiest game to watch. That first half was pretty much the equivalent to chugging half a bottle of NyQuil. The Commanders were able to string together one decent drive thanks to getting premium field positioning to start of off. The Eagles couldn't get dick going on offense, and Jake Elliott just apparently sucks now. It seems like we finally have an answer why Nick Sirianni constantly opts to not kick field goals and go for it on 4th down.
7-3 at halftime. 10-6 at the end of the 3rd quarter. If you're not a fan of either team on the field, then there was literally no reason for you to be watching this game anymore. Throw on a movie, get caught up with The Penguin, maybe just get some shut eye. But for anyone who stuck with this game and persevered through?
Well Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles rewarded you with a 4th quarter shit pumping for the ages. It took this team a little longer than anybody would have hoped to get themselves going tonight, but that 4th quarter was everything that Eagles football is all about. Jalen Hurts making smart decisions with the football. The offensive line bullying everyone up front. Saquon Barkley being the best back in football. And while the defense played great all night, they really turned that shit up in the 4th.
PAY ZACK BAUN. This man is the best linebacker the Eagles have had in decades. The dude is a legitimate superstar.
And speaking of superstars, let's talk about the Exciting Whites!
This game was always going to come down to turnovers. Every football game comes down to turnovers, but especially Eagles vs Washington games. You win the turnover battle, you come out with the W. The Eagles defense picked up a huge stop on 4th down, and then an interception to help seal the deal late in the 4th. Again, the defense wasn't an issue at all tonight. They played great from start to finish. But to have the ability to keep the game in reach while the offense was struggling, and then have the ability to step on Washington's throats once the Eagles offense started to put some points on the board? This is a special, special defense.
And maybe nobody is more special on that defense than 27.
I'm at the point where I think it's disrespectful to put Quinyon Mitchell in the Defensive Rookie of the Year conversation. He deserves to be in the Defensive Player of the Year conversation instead.
It wasn't the prettiest win of all time. It was 45 minutes of total shit followed by 15 minutes of pure greatness. But on a short week against a division opponent? You'll take an ass kicking any way you can get it.
1st in the division, baby. Go Birds.
